Liga Sagres: Futebol Clube Porto 1-1 Sport Lisboa e Benfica

SL Benfica, after gaining access to the Carlsberg Cup final went to FCP stadium to obtain one precious point.

Last week Benfica defeated Vitória Sport Clube by 2-1 and made the dream, of being in the Carlsberg Cup final for the first time, come true.

After that middle week game everyone expected a tired team to face FC Porto, but the player’s attitude was completely different.

Quique’s players knew that the first half an hour wasn’t going to be easy and in fact that was the best Porto moment in match. As the time was going by, the Benfica’s team was gaining more relaxed and controlling better the game. When the first half was finishing Yebda responded with a goal to a corner kick.

The second half of the game brought a Porto team trying to change things on the pitch but, Jesualdo Ferreira couldn’t do much more with his actual team. Other explication was the correct attitude from the Benfica’s defence and also the good midfield players positioning.

One of the players gaining importance in this Benfica, from game to game, is Aimar.

Pablo César Aimar Giordano (1979-11-03)

Pablito started playing football very young, on the streets of Río Cuarto (Argentina) and later on the Students 6TH Division. Here the coach was his father Ricardo Aimar that gave him some advices, like for instance: “pay attention to those who criticize you and not only to the other who applaud” and “to have success you’ll need to join sacrifice to your talent”.

Once Pablito went to some prospection trainings in Buenos Aires and he was immediately invited to stay with the young players from River Plate AC. By then he knew he could have a prosperous future if he dedicated hard to football. Nevertheless he decided to return to Río Cuarto. The best news was yet to come, Pekerman the Sub-17 National team called him to represent Argentina giving him the number 10. On that World tournament (Malaysia) they achieved the title.

Later Daniel Passarella decided to talk to Ricardo Aimar with the porpoise of inviting Pablo to join Club Atletico River Plate, keeping simultaneously his studies. The answer was positive and Pablo moved to the great city of Buenos Aires. The homesick provoked some sadness on him but fortunately he made some good friends that helped him facing the difficulties. He played for the first team on August 1996.

On the first month of 2000 Valência CF contacted Aimar by an amount near 24 million Euros. He had some troubles on his adaptation to European football. After that period and also when Rafael Benitez took the place of H. Cuper the better perfomances and the titles started to appear.

Real Zaragoça was the last team Aimar represented before coming to SL Benfica. Zaragoça had money and projects but some Club problems and also the athlete injuries made the team made the team loose the maintenance fight.

Aimar has a great opportunity here in Benfica to show all his best qualities and to return to the best exhibitions.

If Aimar achieves his best performance Quique Flores and Diego Armando Maradona will for sure appreciate that.
